Dr. Markiewicz received her medical degree from the Northwestern University Medical School. She completed her residency in 1990 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where she also completed a fellowship in radiation and molecular biology.
Dr. Markiewicz is board-certified in radiation oncology by the American Board of Radiology. She practiced for five years at the University of Pennsylvania where she was an assistant professor on the faculty. She was the recipient of an American Cancer Society Career Development Award. She has a special interest in breast cancer and head and neck cancers and has published research on these topics, as well as the molecular biology and genetics of cancer.
Dr. Markiewicz is one of the founders of the Breast Tumor Conference, a weekly meeting of physician specialists in breast cancer. She is an integral part of the breast cancer clinical leadership team at Delaware County Memorial Hospital that obtained the first Joint Commission Breast Cancer Disease Specific Certification in the tri-state area and in the state of Pennsylvania.
She has developed programs for combined modality therapy of breast cancer and improved dosimetry in the treatment of breast cancers. She has also initiated the use of combined chemotherapy and radiation in the treatment of head and neck cancers. She is a member of the Ethics Committee and she has been named a “Top Doc” by Main Line Magazine.
